Astrakhan region is ready to become a logistics hub for Afghan exports
Chairman of the Government of the Astrakhan Region Ilya Volinsky held talks with Hassan Gull Hassan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to Russia.
Astrakhan Region is Russia's geostrategic territory in the Caspian Sea and the main platform for political and business communication with the Caspian littoral states. Welcoming the Ambassador, Ilya Volynsky said that our region is also an important part of the North–South international transport corridor, and that Russia's only port special economic zone has been created on our territory.
In 2024, a record cargo turnover was recorded in the Astrakhan region: more than 6 million tons. Currently, the total potential of the region's ports has reached 16 million tons of cargo per year. Astrakhan region can deliver goods not only by sea, but also by rail or road. Transit shipments can be carried out from Russia and Belarus, and they have already been established in a number of countries in the Persian Gulf and Asia. "As a powerful transit center in the Caspian Sea, we are ready to act as a transport and logistics hub for Afghan exports and imports," stressed the Chairman of the Astrakhan government.
Our region has offered a foreign partner to expand trade cooperation: the Astrakhan region is able to contribute to Afghanistan's food security by exporting rice, wheat flour, mutton, canned fish and vegetables. Last year, our region exported timber, flour and vegetable oil to Afghanistan.
Hassan Gull Hassan expressed interest in expanding bilateral cooperation with the Astrakhan region.
